| A terrific
3 day adventure to remember combining the elements of sailing and island
bagging with the opportunity to bag a great Scottish summit for those
that want to. Meet us at Largs Yacht Haven Friday evening from around 9pm. On Saturday we’ll sail to Lamlash on Arran in true island bagging style. Our adventure combines 2 days of sailing with one day of walking on Arran with 3 nights accommodation on a superb 40 ft yacht, 2 per cabin share basis. Mealplan includes breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, evening dinners ashore are extra (not included) An example itinerary follows although this is dependent upon weather and tide at the time of the trip:
Day 1 – Sat. Sail to an anchorage enroute to Arran, lunch on board. After lunch we sail on to Brodick, afternoon tea on board. There’ll be lots of opportunity today to try your hand at sailing the yacht under the careful supervision of our Skipper, Brian who will show you how to hand, reef and steer. No previous experience necessary. In the evening we’ll make up our sandwich packs for the next day’s walk and then dinghy ashore for a good Scottish Pub dinner then return by dinghy to the yacht for a great nights sleep after all that sea air.
Day 2 – A day to walk on Arran. We’ll have a go at the summit of Goat Fell at 850 metres. There are several routes to the top, some easier others harder and this makes a terrific day out especially as we’ll have been looking at Goat Fell on the previous days’ sail. A degree of walk fitness is required for this. If time allows we may have the chance to grab a shower at a lovely Spa on the way back to our yacht. We did this Aug 07 and it was a nice luxurious way to end the day (The lads grabbed a pint in the pub in preference!) Then there’s a very short sail to Lamlash where we’ll have our supper at the Pier Head Tavern or Drift Inn.
Day 3 – after breakfast on board we sail back to Largs, stopping enroute for lunch. Disembark Largs at around 4pm after Tea.
Sailing in the Clyde is usually sheltered and comfortable however if weather causes a last minute change of plan there are lots of alternatives and we may instead explore the East and West Kyle, Caladh island and Cames Bay with interesting coastal walking and prehistoric stone circles on the isle of Bute.
You will need to bring your usual walking gear, waterproof jacket and trousers, hat, gloves, and lots of fleecy warm layers as these can all be used whilst sailing too. A pair of white soled trainers or plimsoles are needed for moving around on the yacht. Wellingtons are also useful on wet days and a pair of binoculars are terrific for wild life spotting from eagles, to porpoise.
This is a great adventure and a fantastic way to see the Scottish Islands. You will return home, refreshed and with a great experience to share with your fellow crew mates.
Full kit list and directions to Largs will be supplied on joining.
